Poetry Monday – Moses and Khidr by Barbara Flaherty

Sometimes you have to turn around,
retrace your steps to the place
where the two seas meet.
One is fresh, the other salty.
One is the lawgiver, the other
swims in deeper waters.
How do you find this place
where the dead come to life,
where the ocean is an archway
for the traveler? The signs
are everywhere around,
hunger, weariness, remembering
what it is you seek. Go back
to the place where the two seas meet,
where the dead came to life.
Sometimes you have to turn around.
