In Memorium – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

Today in the United States is the National Holiday of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, (which falls every year on the first Monday after his birthday, January 15, 1929). I do not have the words to do justice to his life and work, and so I will quote only two paragraphs that may help explain why he is one of this nation’s heroes.

“The gospel at its best deals with the whole man, not only his soul but his body, not only his spiritual well-being, but his material well being. Any religion that professes to be concerned about the souls of men and is not concerned about the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them and the social conditions that cripple them is a spiritually moribund religion awaiting burial.”  Pilgrimage to Non-Violence, 1960

“Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political and moral questions of our time: the need for man to overcome oppression and violence without resorting to oppression and violence. Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.”Nobel Prize acceptance speech, Stockholm, Sweden, December 11, 1964.

God bless his soul and memory, and may we as a people learn from his example.  Amen!

Ya Haqq!

  1. Josef Sefton says:

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
    Romans 12:21.

Friends, we cannot let evil alone, for evil will not let us alone. We must fight against it and in the battle we will conquer it provided we arm ourselves with God’s gracious and generous gift of goodness. Be courageous in doing good, for no one needs to be utterly overcome by evil.

Lord God thank You for protecting us, so that sin isn’t allowed to master us. Friends. we all need constantly to be reminded that the God who loves us is a God who can work mighty miracles! Be of good cheer for Jesus has overcome the world and He makes all His true disciples partakers of this victory!

Always remember that good is a sufficient and effectual weapon in this conflict. Evil is sin and error. In fighting against sin and error, our weapons must be holiness and truth. Friends, avenge not yourselves, for God says Vengeance is His and He will repay!

  2. Irving says:

True words, brother Josef, and I thank you for always speaking from the heart of faith and love :)

    Peace and blessings!

  3. Josef Sefton says:

God is good and his commandments are good!

Faith not only requires our participation, but provides us a foundation upon which we can stand and be established in in love for God and good words and deeds toward our fellow man.

To believe.means to trust in,have faith in,be fully convinced of, and rely on. The more we believe the more we become firm, stable, established, and firmly persuaded.

Friends, set your hearts to be established in the Creator and you will enhance your prospects of being established.

The key to being established in truth is becoming grounded in His Word, for faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom. 10:17).

Friends, Let us build our lives on Jesus, the Word (John 1:14). And, as we believe in God and his words and demonstrate them, we will be established. May God continue to bless your sincere efforts.
