Rumi’s Thanksgiving Poem

Thanksgiving is sweeter than bounty itself.
One who cherishes gratitude does not cling to the gift!
Thanksgiving is the true meat of God’s bounty;
the bounty is its shell,
For thanksgiving carries you to the hearth of the Beloved.
Abundance alone brings heedlessness,
thanksgiving gives birth to alertness…
The bounty of thanksgiving will satisfy and elevate you,
and you will bestow a hundred bounties in return.
Eat your fill of God’s delicacies,
and you will be freed from hunger and begging.

– Jalaluddin Rumi

Happy Thanksgiving 2011!!!

O Lord, in these hard times, we thank You for the bounty of our table, when so many in the world go hungry.
And we thank You for our family and friends, when so many in the world walk alone.

A very well done description of Thanksgiving!

  2. Josef Sefton says:

Friends, I’ve been blessed by God to understand that everything that God blesses strengthens us and everything that God curses weakens us. Obeying anything he commands us to do will strengthens us whilst disobeying anything he has commanded us to do will weaken us.

The holy Bible teaches that without faith it is impossible to please God: for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 2:5-6).

One of the rewards that God blesses those with who diligently seek him is with an increased strength and power to obey him. The treasured, cherished reward of God’s love results in an increased desire within us to thank, praise and worship him in word and deed.

Psalm 100 is a wonderful exhortation to thanksgiving, praise and worship.

1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

What an immense honour it is to say thank You to our mighty, majestical, all-powerful God of heaven and earth. What a blessing He is to us. May we always endeavour to bring glory to and honour His exalted name.

Friends, it is God’s will for His creation to offer unto Him the spiritual sacrifice of thanksgiving!

These two wonderful verses show us the way.
    Psalm 118:1
O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good: for His mercy endures for ever.

David was blessed by God with this confident witness from Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house (presence) of the LORD for ever.

Truly our gratitude is for God’s compassionate companionship and His numerous blessings!

Thankfulness unto holy God is heaven’s theme and can become our theme on earth as we trust and obey very attentively the Shepherd of our soul. This is brought to our attention in Revelation 7:12. May God bless you all body, soul and spirit to His glory.
