knowledge…Allah has been sending me lots of messages about this recently. thank you, brother for this beautiful post.
I’d like more elaboration on that.
Salaam Dear Sisters Annie and Lilian:
Thank you for the comments :) Lilian, to elaborate just a little, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Seek knowledge, even unto China.” From this, his devoted follower who loved him, Mu’adh ibn Jabal, wrote the statement in the post, by which he meant not only the new religion of Islam, or the revelations that would eventually become the Qu’ran, but all knowledge in itself, of science, philosophy, nature, etc, because all such knowledge eventually leads to a greater realization of God. This is why he put it in religious terms; goodness, worship, glorification, charity, and jihad (meaning the greater struggle to overcome the nafs, the lower self or ego, which leads to ignorance).
The subject is truly limitless, as knowledge is, which is why he also used the terms of a scholar in endless study: seek, review, research, teach.
At least, that is the way I read it :) God knows the truth.
Ya Haqq!
First, thank you for your web journal – this has become a regular stop on my day’s journey.
The most recent post is so good to read because this idea was on my mind this morning, and connections like connections like this are pleasure.
I was meditating on how the pursuit of knowledge is reverence for God’s creation. Thank you for enriching my day!
Great quote.
For me no elaboration is needed :)
Masha Allah, what an explanation!
Salaam to you and Ibn Jabal
may his soul be in peace
“Glory to Thee, of knowledge we have none, save Thou hast taught us: in truth it is Thou Who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom.” (Quran 2:32)
Ya Haqq!
Bless you dear brother,
Not only for sharing these blessed words… But for that unmistakeable grace which accompanies all you do, all you write…
I hold you in the light today and always,
Maithri
A truly inspiring citation :)
