Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh (1926-2008)

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh, Master of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order for over 50 years, joined the Beloved on Friday, October 10, 2008.  May God bless his soul and raise his rank to those of His true lovers. Amin.

Through Love, I have reached a place
Where no trace of Love remains,
Where “I” and “we” and the painting of existence
Have all been forgotten and left behind…

– Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh

Ya Haqq!

  2. Aaminah says:

    Asalaamu alaikum.

Please forgive me that the proper du’a that we say upon such news has never stuck in my mind and I cannot think of the words now. May Allah forgive him, show him mercy, expand his grave, and give peace to those who will miss him.

For you, dear brother, may Allah give you a peaceful heart and acceptance that your teacher’s work here on earth was done, and inshaAllah you will hold his hand in Paradise. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  3. zamayara says:

I had no chance to know Master personally, but felt the power of Love through his speeches to dervishes and his poetry.
Real Masters never leave, they remain in other subtle dimensions, helping us out on the Path

    Salaam Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Thank you all for your prayers and kind comments :) And thank you, Zamayara, for your words of wisdom. You’re right, of course, our Master has not left us, but is alive in the lessons and writings and poetry he has left behind, and in the spiritual attention he has passed on to his most worthy successor, Shaykh Alireza Nurbakhsh, and through him to us. We are blessed beyond words. Truly he has but taken the final turn on the Path of Love, and only a little while before we all do.

    Sadness dissipates,
    Love shines forth

    From the Bestower of Light
    In his passing comes

    This lesson: Serve creation
    And fear nothing

    God is ever with you
    O darvish, open your

    heart and behold
    Him in yourself.

  26. Irving says:

    Salaam Dear Brothers and Sisters:

I was told today that Shaykh Alireza Nurbakhsh, the new Master of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order, read these words at the burial service for his father:

    All is unity.

    We are manifestations of Unity

The Master is in us and we are in the Master.

Ya Pir! Just reading these blessed words caused me to weep anew, but not out of sorrow. Alhamdulillah! That we were given such a Master, the Qutb of the age, who was with us for so many years. May the example of Dr. Nurbakhsh’s life shine in each of our hearts, expressed in loving-kindness, humility, and service.

  33. Peter says:

Our beloved Master showed us how to live. His Love and kindness was an example for us all. To be with him was to be without any need for anything, at peace and in love.
His family has shown so much strength and love at this difficult time. My heart goes out to all of them.
He is in all of those he touched.
His message is simple. Be nobody, love everyone and selflessly serve society. I hope I can honour his memory by becoming free of selfisness and like him giving love freely to all.

My sympathies to all who are so profoundly touched by this great loss. There is a beautiful and simple poem (I think by Tagor?) if I may, I’ll share with you:

    On Death

It’s not that the light went out,
    It’s turning the lamp off,
    Because the new dawn came.

    Assalamualaikum Br. Darvish

It is truly painful to lose someone like Dr Nurbaksh who represented a rose of the Beloved to Mankind for many years. It was time for him to join the Beloved whom he was singing for, songs of love, through his teachings, for many years. His loss is more felt in the midst of the current world situation which is filled with hate, greed and evil.

I offer condolences to my self, you, and all peace loving people of the world for this lose.

  47. Suzanne St. Onge says:

To all the family and followers of Dr. Nurbaksh, my love and prayers are eternal, but in this world, I wish to send a simple correction to my last entry. It seems my mind plays tricks on me. I met Dr. Nurbaksh in Boston Massachusetts in 1980, and spent time with him in Santa Fe New Mexico in 1981. That is over 25 years ago and not as previously written “over 35 years” ago. Khuda Hafez
