The Fast and the Qur’an – a Ramadan Hadith

June 29, 2014

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

“The fast and the Qur’an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: ‘O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.’ The Qur’an will say: ‘I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.’ And their intercession will be accepted.”

- A hadith, or saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. (Ahmad)

Prayers for the People of Egypt!

January 30, 2011

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour (of Judgment Day).” He was then asked: “How will honesty be lost?” The Prophet replied: “When authority is given to those who do not deserve it.”

Possible Dreams and a Soaring Impulse!

May 20, 2010

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

My friend Dr. Maithri Goonileke of the beautiful Soaring Impulse blog, is a medical doctor that spends part of each year caring for the AIDS orphans in Swaziland.  I consider him a humanitarian and a hero, and when he sent his friends this note on Facebook, I wanted to share it with all the readers of this blog. He wrote:

“Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to a group of young Muslim children about the AIDS orphans of Swaziland and making a difference.

“Since we launched Possible Dreams International in September of last year, we have raised 40 thousand dollars, started 100 malnourished orphan children on monthly food supplementation, built 5 houses for orphan families, provided hundreds and hundreds who are starving or living with AIDS with urgent medical attention, food/social assistance and basic needs…

“I have been astounded by the compassionate response of people all around the world…. and I am readying now to return to Africa in a couple of weeks…

“Yet still every day there is a new heartbreak, a new child on the brink, or a patient whom I hear is sleeping in the rain or cannot afford his medical or school fees…

“So I am constantly trying to find ways of spreading word of our work…

“I am asking friends of mine to consider suggesting our organization to those on their friend list…

“On our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/possibledreamsinternational there is a link on the sidebar of the page called ‘suggest to friends’ …it allows you to send an invitation to as many friends as you would like to join our group…”

Also, you can go to the Possible Dreams International website and read of his work, and if you scroll all the way down you will find a donate button through Paypal.  Please help as you can. It doesn’t matter how much you give. Every dollar can save a life in Swaziland.

“He who takes care of an orphan, whether he is his relative or a stranger, will be in Jannah (paradise) with me… – a hadith of the Prophet (pbuh), reported by Abu Hurairah.

“I saw a man from among my Ummah”

April 29, 2010

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

Bismillah!

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) came out to us one day. He stood before us and said:

‘Last night I saw something amazing. I saw a man from among my Ummah to whom the Angel of death came to seize his soul, but his honoring of his parents came and kept the Angel of death away from him.

‘I saw a man whose torment of the grave was about to come upon him, and his wudu (ablution before prayers) came and saved him from that.

‘I saw a man from my Ummah whom the devils had seized, but his remembrance of Allah came and banished the devils from him.

‘I saw a man from my Ummah whom the Angels of torment had seized, but his prayer came and saved him from them.

‘I saw a man from my Ummah tormented by thirst. Every time he approached the cistern, he was pushed back, then his Ramadan fasting came and gave him to drink and quenched his thirst.

‘I saw a man from my Ummah, and I saw the Prophets sitting in circles.
Every time he approached a circle he was repulsed, then his doing ghusl (full ablution) to cleanse himself from janaabah (impurity) came, took him by the hand and brought him to sit beside me.

‘I saw a man from my Ummah in front of whom was darkness, behind him was darkness, to his right was darkness,to his left was darkness and above and beneath him was darkness. He was stumbling in darkness; then his Hajj and Umrah came and brought him out from that darkness into the light.

‘I saw a man from among my Ummah trying to protect himself with his hands from the flames and sparks of Fire, then his sadaqah (giving in charity) came and formed a barrier between him and the fire and shielded him.

‘I saw a man from my Ummah speaking to believers but they did not speak to him. Then his upholding of family ties came and said: “O Muslims he used to uphold ties of kinship so speak to him.” then the believers spoke to him and shook hands with him and he with them.

‘I saw a man from among my Ummah whom the guards of Hell had seized, then his enjoining of what was good and forbidding of what was evil came and seized him from them, and brought him to be with the Angels of mercy.

‘I saw man from among my Ummah kneeling down, with a screen between him and Allah. Then his good manners and attitude (adab) came and took him by the hand and brought him before Allah.

‘I saw a man from among my Ummah teetering at the edge of Hell, but his hope in Allah came and saved him from that and he moved on.

‘I saw a man from among my Ummah who had reached the gates of Paradise but the gates were locked and he was shut out. Then his testimony (Shahadah) that there is no God except Allah came and opened the gates for him and admitted him to Paradise.’”

- A hadith (saying) of the Prophet (pbuh) narrated by Abdur Rahmaan ibn Samurah.

Acquire Knowledge!

March 4, 2010

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

To acquire knowledge is binding upon all Muslims, whether male or female.

He who travels in the search of knowledge, to him God shows the way of Paradise.

Acquire knowledge, because he who acquires it in the way of the Lord performs an act of piety; who speaks of it praises the Lord; who seeks it, adores God, who dispenses instruction in it, bestows alms; and who imparts it to its fitting objects performs an act of devotion to God.

Knowledge enables its possessor to distinguish what is forbidden from what is not; lights the way to Heaven; it is our friend in the desert, our companion in solitude, our companion when bereft of friends; it guides us to happiness; it sustains us in misery; it is our ornament in the company of friends; it serves as an armor against our enemies. With knowledge the creatures of Allah rises to the heights of goodness and to noble position, associates with the sovereigns in this world and attains the perfection of happiness in the next.

The Prophet (pbuh) and His Granddaughter

January 31, 2010

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

The Prophet (peace be upon him) once offered prayer while carrying his granddaughter on his shoulder. “The Prophet (peach be unto him) led the people in prayer while she was on his shoulder. When he bowed he put her down and picked her up when he got up. He kept on doing so until he finished his prayer.” - Sunan of Abu-Dawoud

One commentator wrote:  “The purpose behind the action of the Prophet (peace be unto him) of carrying his granddaughter in the prayer was to set an example before the Arabs who considered having daughters and carrying them around as something bad or shameful. The Prophet…acted differently from them, and carried a girl on his neck in the prayer, and making something clear by example is much more effective than a mere precept.”  – Fiqh-us-Sunnah, Volume 2,
