Happy Islamic New Year 1436/2015 :)

October 24, 2014

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

HAPPY NEW YEAR 1436!!!

The Islamic New Year begins at sunset on Friday, October 24, 2014 in North America and ends at sunset on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

The Islamic year begins on the first day of Muharram, and is counted from the year of the Hegira, the year in which the Prophet Muhammad (saw) emigrated from Mecca to Medina (A.D. July 16, 622). The Islamic New Year is based on the revolutions of the Moon. Thus, Al-Hijra is only 354 days long.

At the time of sunrise many recite the following dua, or prayer, on the day of the New Year:

O’ Allah, the New Year has begun. You are the Eternal Master. I ask You to make available to me its good and the benefits which are in it. I seek refuge with You from its evil and the disadvantages which are in it. I request You to let me procure the provisions I need and discharge the activities I take up in this year.

Ameen!

In Memory of Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh

October 8, 2014

master picSalaam and Greetings of Peace:

Friday, October 10th is the six year anniversary of the death of Dr. Javad Nurbakhsh, for over 50 years the Master of the Nimatullahi Sufi Order, and for 17 years, my Master (may God bless his soul and raise him to the highest rank of His beloveds. Ameen!).

To commemorate the occasion, his own poem is a fitting tribute to his life and station:

My Heart Holds Your Home,

my head desiring You;

Night and day have all passed,

while I am pledged to You.

I have suffered at the hand

of the people of the time;

In the world I’ve only seen

fidelity from You.

I’ve been drunk with Your wine

Since pre-eternity;

I’m surrendered to Your will

till post-eternity.

I’ve no hope for heaven

or for the Resurrection;

I have never wanted

anyone but You.

Once I realized that in reality

the Path cannot be traveled

Except on Your feet,

I lost both my head and feet.

With every breath I take

I am conscious of You;

I gave up heart and soul

for contentment from You.

If, like Nurbakhsh, you have pledged

yourself wholeheartedly to God;

The creation then will be ready

to pledge itself to you.

Bismillah – Rumi’s Poem for Eid Al-Adha

October 3, 2014

BISMILLAH!

It’s a habit of yours to walk slowly.
You hold a grudge for years.
With such heaviness, how can you be modest?
With such attachments, do you expect to arrive anywhere?

Be wide as the air to learn a secret.
Right now you’re equal portions clay
and water, thick mud.

Abraham learned how the sun and moon and the stars all set.
He said, No longer will I try to assign partners for God.

You are so weak. Give up to grace.
The ocean takes care of each wave
till it gets to shore.

You need more help than you know.
You’re trying to live your life in open scaffolding.

Say Bismillah, In the name God,
As the priest does with knife when he offers an animal.

Bismillah your old self
to find your real name.

- Jalaladdin Rumi

Jesus and the Blind Leper

July 30, 2014

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

“It is related that Jesus (on him be peace) passed by a blind man who was a leper and lame of both feet because of paralysis and his flesh was consumed by leprosy, and he was saying: ‘Praise be to God who has kept me in good health and saved me from many things which have befallen others of his creatures.’ Then Jesus said to him: ‘O thou friend, from what kind of affliction do I see that you are free ‘ ; and he replied : ‘ O spirit of God, I am better than those in whose heart God has not put anything of his knowledge and his grace.’ And Jesus said : ‘You have spoken truly. Stretch forth your hand,’ and he stretched forth his hand and became of perfect health both as to his body and his appearance, for God had taken away all his sickness. So he accompanied Jesus and worshipped with him.”

Eid Mubarak :)

July 29, 2014

Salaam And Greetings of Peace:

“O Lord! Let not our hearts deviate now after You have guided us, but grant us mercy from Your own Presence; for You are the Grantor of bounties without measure.”    – Qur’an: 3:9

May Allah bless you all this Eid with generosity of heart, sincerity of speech, kindness in action, and love and joy in remembrance of Him, who is the Source of all Generosity, Sincerity, Kindness, Joy and Love.    Ameen!

The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“One who helps a fellow Muslim in removing his (or her) difficulty in this world, Allah will remove the former’s distress on the Day of Judgment. He who helps to remove the hardship of another, will have his difficulties removed by Allah in this world and in the Hereafter. One who covers the shortcomings of another Muslim, will have his faults covered up in this world and the next by Allah. Allah continues to help a servant so long as he goes on helping his own brother (or sister).”

Ya Haqq!
