Everywhere I Look, You Are

O Beloved, everywhere I look, You are!
Every sound I hear is You!
Every touch, taste, scent, all You!

Every child’s face is You,
Every stranger, every friend
Of every nation, end to end.

Every sound echoes Your voice!
The wind stirs the trees and
The leaves sway to La Illaha ill Allah!

The sea waves Your name to the shore
The earth grows Your name in its bounty
The sky colors Your name in aching blue.

In all the worlds, everywhere
Without end, there is only You
The Merciful and Everlasting Friend.

  1. Umm Aisha says:

    Masha-Allah, Beautiful Brother!

  2. GreenMonk says:

This poem is beautiful! It reminds me of the saying in the Psalms…”Where can I go from your presence?” Indeed, God is in every smile, every falling leaf, everything.

  3. Irving says:

    Salaam Dear Sisters and Brother:

Thank you for the kind words about the poem :) And yes, GreenMonk, it is indeed like that saying in the Psalms, and also like this poem from the great Sufi Master, ibn ‘Arabi:

It is He who is revealed in every face,
    sought in every sign,
    gazed upon by every eye,
worshiped in every object of worship,
and pursued in the unseen and the visible.
Not a single one of His creatures can fail
to find Him in its primordial and original nature.

The movement which is the existence
of the universe is the movement of love.

    - Ibn Arabi

    Ya Haqq!

  4. Ismail Radpour says:

The sea waves Your name to the shore
The earth grows Your name in its bounty
The sky colors Your name in aching blue.

Beautiful, I think the sea must refer to aj-Jamaal (Beauty) of Allah, earth to al-Kamaal (Perfectness) and the sky refer to aj-Jalaal (Glory).

    Ya Haqq!
