The knowledge of You
Comes swift as light
To sit within the circle
Of zekr and gratitude
A presence felt in darkness
The soul’s delight
The knowledge of You
My bones remember
My blood, nerves, sinews
And my eyes, this poet’s sight
That writes only You, who
Are pen and ink and paper
You are love and turmoil
Hope and answered prayers
Fathomless as oceans
Encompassing as night
My heart’s rest as winter comes
And all the leaves take flight.
- Irving Karchmar, October 2007
That was an interesting poem!
Hu!
Dear brother Irving! What comes forth thru your blessed heart is sure flowing from the Fountain of Eternal Love shared by all lovers of the One and only Truth. Blessed are the ones who ever leave open their hearts to embrace the Divine Radiance and to receive the Ruby Wine of Oneness decending on their awakened and gazing hearts’ eyes to the Beloved.

Beautiful! Mashallah you have been quite busy recently writing poetry!
It was beautiful poem..
“Fathomless as oceans”
I liked this part..
Salamaat,
“And all leaves take flight” that line took my breath away. May He increase you! I have been at a loss to describe this awesome beauty that is fall, flaming all around us….Mashaallah.
This is beautiful and so intimately heartfelt. I particularly liked,
Fathomless as oceans
Encompassing as night
My heart’s rest as winter comes
And all the leaves take flight.
As the winter moves in here in Boston, this stanza is a comfort and reminder. Thank you.

your enlightened ‘Darvishy’ imagery scatters seeds of love, planted in hearts across the globe to burst forth countless ‘soul’s delights’. May eternal blessings be showered upon you and all your near and dear ones, Ameen.
Wassalamu alaikum
Lovely poetry. You have a way with words! I may steal this for my blog (crediting you, of course ;-) ).
salaam, dear brother. i am so moved by what i read in your blog. you convey so much Love for the Beloved. with my dog being ill, i haven’t been able to read through it like i’d hoped or to start reading master of the jinn. i am thinking both activities would probably be the best remedy for some of what i’m going through right now.
Such beautiful poetry, brother Irving! These lines especially resonated with me:
To sit within the circle
Of zekr and gratitude
…because I walked through a labyrinth yesterday evening, and it was deeply moving. I shall have to post about it. Meanwhile, thank you once again for sharing your lovely writing with us all.

Salaam,
MashAllah brother, that poem was so simple yet so powerful. It encompasses such conflicting emotions (hope and despair, peace and tranquility) that go straight to the heart :)
Jazak Allah khair!
