Why all this talk of buying and selling?
What you need is already inside you.
Love’s caravan is ready to depart, O merchant,
The camels are laden with treasures untold
Come! Bargains are to be found on the Way.
All you possess in exchange for nothingness.
Sell all you have in the world’s marketplace
In exchange, receive only the love of the Friend.
Earthly jewels are but shining baubles
His jewels are the stars without end
Tarry no longer, the blessed sun rises!
This is the hour when travelers depart
Alhamdulillah! A thousand surprises
Await on the path of the Heart.
- Irving Karchmar, August 2007
This one is in itself a perfect jewel. AND it makes me laugh for happiness too!
Assalamu alaikum dear Irving Darvish,
so exquisite…the imagery, the structure….please book me a ticket on this Love’s Caravan and notify me of the departure date!!! :)
Warmest
Salam
Dear brother Irving, this is excellent. MashaAllah!
I thought I was reading Rumi its clear that your poetry is influenced by Rumi
This is like a cup of cool water in the dryness of the desert. Thank you brother.
Salaam Dear Sisters and Brother:
Thank you all for the kind and generous comments :) And Sister Confused, of course I was influenced by Rumi, and Ibn Arabi and Hafez and Nurbakhsh and many others. Their words permeate the soul and the pen dips itself in the ink of their love and writes what it will.
Ya Haqq!
What soulful piece of poetry dear, Akhavi! May your love’s caravan ever be moving on… And Lo! In one cool spring morning arriving in the Ruined Tavern of the Beloved’s Rose Garden….
Salaams Irving bhai
Ma sha Allah! Beautiful. Truly beautiful.
Abdur Rahman
Beautiful and filled with truth. Everything that we need is inside of us. Thanks for sharing this :)
Lovely, Irving, truly lovely. Clearly the Beloved’s Ink was flowing through your pen.
Pamela

Ya Haqq!
Brilliant poignant piece, as like your other works. Albeit, by far this is the most exquisite to me.
I hope you won’t mind me posting it in my blog and sharing it with others. Thank you & look forward to reading more of your beautiful poems.
a lot of mystical air around you, around the poem. everywhere you look:What you need is already inside you.
Irving, your poem is beautiful and filled with deep truth!
Yet truly what we need is already inside us, only if it has been previously planted and nurtured by God therefore all the glory goes to Him for our artistic achievements..
Irving, everything that we need is to be found in gracious God and He longs for us to listen to and obey His teachings, so that He can richly bless us and write His healing and love-inspiring words on the tablet of our heart to His eternal glory.
May God continue to pour out His life-restoring love on you and your precious readers, so that you are all always ready to love your neighbour as you love yourselves!
Josef
Dear Joseph:
