Prophetic Wisdom

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

The Prophet (pbuh) said:
Remembrance of God is my friend;
Reason is the root of my faith;
Love is my foundation;
Enthusiasm is my horse;
Knowledge of God is my capital;
Firmness is my treasure;
Sorrow is my companion;
Science is my weapon;
Patience is my mantle;
Contentment is my reward;
Poverty is my pride;
Devotion is my art;
Conviction is my power;
Truth is my redeemer;
Obedience is my sufficiency;
Struggle is my manner
and my pleasure is in my prayer.

    I never read this hadith before. Thank you dear Irving!

  2. Abdul Muneer says:

    Assalamu Alaikum Dear Bhai,
    Thank you very much for this gift. The words from Rasool(SAW) are always of infinite value for His children.
    ‘Poverty is my pride’!!
    Subhanallah..
    Thank you again Irving bhai.

    What I admire most about the Prophet of Islam is that where the Buddha and Jesus originated a religion for specialists like ascetics and monks Islam invites everybody from the culprit to the saint to embrace Islam and live an active religion day by day.

  4. Irving says:

    Salaam Dear Sister and Brothers:

    Suroor: Check the source at link to Mystic Saint’s blog. It is part of a longer article on Hazrat Ali (may Allah bless him).

    Abdul Muneer: How right you are! When I read the hadith, I could not help but weep at its beauty and love. It is a hadith that summerizes the entire Sufi path, on which I am only an unworthy darvish.

    Lulando: I am not sure I agree. Every religion is for living every day, and the best of those that follow each are not the hermits or the scholars, but the ordinary people who live a God-fearing and God-loving life. In that, there is a sign for all who believe.

  6. Irving says:

    Salaam Dear Brother Ismail:

    Actually it is not a complilation of different hadiths. It was recorded by Hazrat Ali. Here is the paragraph from the article:

    Hazrat Ali led his life strictly in accordance with the teachings and tenets of Islam revealed to the world as a perfect code of life and a guide to the man’s steps towards the path of obedience to the Will of Allah. He once asked the Holy Prophet as to what was his Sunnah. The Prophet said: “Remembrance of God is my friend; Reason is the root of my faith; Love is my foundation; Enthusiasm is my horse; Knowledge of God is my capital; Firmness is my treasure; Sorrow is my companion; Science is my weapon; Patience is my Mantle; Contentment is my booty; Poverty is my pride; Devotion is my art; Conviction is my power; Truth is my redeemer; Obedience is my sufficiency; Struggle is my manner and my pleasure is in my prayer.”

    And here is the source of the article:

    Dear Brother Irving :D
    I agree fully and may not have made myself clear enough: I have met very many muslims who live a true religous life without compromises. But apart from very very few ‘professionals’ like priest or monks I have never ever met one Christian who at least tried to practice ‘love thy neighbour’. The only answer I ever got was: “Well, not for me. I am not Jesus, ye know…” So it seems the Prophet’s way is easiest to follow…

    All is one!

  8. Aaminah says:

    Asalaamu alaikum.

    Beautiful. As you say, it pretty much sums up the path in its totallity.

  9. I guess this mistake because I heard some sentence in some hadiths.

    Anyway , Thanks brother Irving to guide me in discovering of my mistake.

  10. katib says:

    Dear Brother,

    When a hadith is cited, it’s customary to provide the sanad (authentication) also which is missing in the article you referred.

    Vassalam,

  11. Aftab says:

    sorrow my companion and poverty my pride…… irving brother for sure this tiny paragraph describes the true way of life ….
