Sword of the Prophet (pbuh)

Salaam and Greetings of Peace:

It is related that this phrase is inscribed on the hilt of the blessed Prophet’s (pbuh) sword:

Forgive him who wrongs you; join him who cuts you off; do good to him who does evil to you, and speak the truth although it be against yourself.

Words to live by! So simple yet sometimes (often) so difficult!

  2. Irving says:

Difficutl indeed, dear Brother Shiraz. Yet like Islam itself, such words surrender all our natural selfish impulses to Allah, who is the source of all forgiveness, unity, goodness and truth. May Allah increase us all in such qualities.

    Ya Haqq!

    Salamaat,
I think that describes the essence of surrender..yet how hard is it? Especially with our natural instinct to self preserve and of course pride…

I hope to be able to do that..not just intellectually but a real cleansing of the soul for the hurts I have collected along the way…which is really hard to do….

  5. M. Shahin says:

Wow! I had no idea about this on the sword. Forgiving someone who did us wrong is a true test of character, which is so why it is so hard for us, but may we follow the beautiful example of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

  6. Cecil says:

Which begs the question that if you really lived by those words why would you need the sword in the first place ?
