You know, what I really love about GOOD love poetry is that anyone can connect to it. You can read it as being written to the Beloved, or toward your shaykh, or between you and your mortal lover. So whatever stage in life you are at, wherever your preoccupation currently is, you can still relate to the poem if you have love. For those of us who are caught up in human love with a spouse, we can feel this kind of lovely poetry…and inshaAllah we will have a deeper appreciation of it still when we move on to deeper loves.
